Our Nature Reserves
The Escarpment Biosphere Conservancy protects land throughout Grey and Bruce Counties, along the Niagara Escarpment all the way onto Manitoulin Island, and along the Lake Huron shoreline. Approximately 50 of these protected areas are privately owned. The rest are owned by us and treated as Nature Reserves. Some of these areas are publicly accessible, they may or may not have trails but the public is encouraged to visit! Other areas are ecologically sensitive due to the species that occur on them or due to the fragility of a given ecosystem. For this purpose, we try to limit the amount of human disturbance that occurs on these sites.
Details about those sites that are publicly accessible can be found on the Visit our Reserves page. This includes maps, trails and photos of a few of our favorite sites!
EBC protects 52 species that are recognized as rare or listed as “at-risk” provincially and/or federally. We also protect rare ecosystems that are sensitive to human impacts among other threats. To learn more about the flora and fauna we protect, please visit our Sensitive Species and Spaces page!
EBC is open to allowing low-impact research on our nature reserves. If any of the species or spaces we protect are of interest to you and your research, or if you would just like more information about our other nature reserves, we encourage you to contact us!
