Today on National Indigenous Peoples Day, we express gratitude to the Indigenous communities who met with us last week. Representatives from Wiikwemkoong, Sheshegwaning, Sheguiandah, AOK, and UCCM hosted us on their traditional lands of Manidoowaaling (ᒪᓂᑝᐙᓕᓐᒃ), otherwise known as Manitoulin Island. Manidoowaaling is an Anishnaabemowin word (the language of Ojibway) which translates to 'cave of spirit'. We thank you for giving us your time and patiently sharing Indigenous ways of knowing. Together with the Niagara Escarpment Biosphere Network, EBC is committed to conserving land against harmful human development in a good way.
Here are some actions non-Indigenous allies can take on National Indigenous Peoples Day and beyond (thank you to Georgian College for creating this excellent list): https://www.georgiancollege.ca/.../national-indigenous.../
