Nature Reserve of the Month: Dewar (August 2021)

September 1, 2021

EBC has been expanding this reserve since its original acquisition in 2005. It is at 281 acres and will hopefully expand to 381 acres in the near future! If you would like to donate towards another 100 acres of Ontarian land permanently conserved, then donate here.

Significant Features

The sand beach shoreline with glacial formations reaches out into Lake Huron. The remainder of the property is forest and fen wetlands. This property has the rare species Pitcher’s Thistle and lies within a kilometer of the Timber Bay Beach Dune Complex.

Location

This reserve is located right on the Lake Huron shore. Starting in Providence Bay, head south on Hwy 551. Once you reach Government Road, head east for about 2 km. Note, the EBC sign is located on the south side of Government Road and may be difficult to see. You may park here and hike along to the shore. The trail starts in over the road allowance and has some wet areas. After walking approximately 1 km from the road you reach the property. To view a map of nature reserve locations click here.
