Volunteer of the Month: Greg McCracken!

Greg discovered EBC by observing a sign posted on the Phillips' property in Mapleton Township, near Arthur, last year shortly after the Covid-19 out-break. Having noticed that no trail had yet been established on the property, he contacted Bob Barnett and offered to lay out and build a trail. After meeting with Jim Phillips, the donor of the property, he blazed a proposed trail which Bob and some other EBC volunteers examined and approved. Greg cleared and marked the trail with the standard white painted blazes. The trail length is approximately 1.6 km.

Greg grew up on a 200-acre farm in New Brunswick which has numerous White Pine stands. Jim Phillips' property reminded him of the forest in which he grew up and he got a lot of enjoyment from working in the White Pines of the Phillips' property. Greg has always had a love of nature and spends as much time as possible in the outdoors practicing photography, canoeing, kayaking, backpacking and rebuilding a cottage he recently bought in near-northern Ontario. The goals of the EBC are very much in line with Greg's interests and values, so he was keen to help out in some way. Greg is a retired Computer Engineer Technologist who has held Information Technology management roles at RWDI Engineering Consulting in Guelph, Sheridan College in Oakville and The Economical Insurance Group in Waterloo.

Thank you for all you have done for us so far Greg!
