Volunteer of the Month: Samantha Angel (April, 2022)

April 28, 2022

1) How did you learn about EBC? I guess I was always aware of other larger conservancies, and when Saba joined she told me about it! I said "Kind of a mouthful! What's a Biosphere?" and loved that there was a group dedicated to this specific region.

2) What made you want to volunteer with EBC? I grew up on the escarpment in Halton hills, and I knew how special this geography is in Ontario. My house was at the highest point of the escarpment in Halton Hills with a view of the Toronto skyline. We always hike the escarpment trails, and I feel a special connection to the nature here.

3) What voluntary activities do you do to help EBC? Mainly I look at the layouts and messaging of the many communications and signage that EBC has to produce, and I'm trying to bring cohesion and consistency, working with my graphic designer to establish brand guidelines and make sure the fundamental materials meet accessibility standards - when I can! I can't keep up with all the publications, announcements and documents that EBC produces. It's a lot.

4) What is your educational/career background? I studied design at OCAD - I run two businesses, one is Marketing and graphic design and the other is Interior design and contracting, within the condo industry. I am a proponent of higher-density living and I work with Condo Boards to improve their communities by upgrading their common areas.
