History
This property is 143.53 acres. and adjacent to the Simcoe County Forests.
Significant Features
The property is comprised of 22% upland deciduous forest, 28% mixed lowland forest, 3% coniferous forest, and 36% treed swamp. In addition, the subject property is comprised of 8% open water, 1% marshland, and 2% open riparian areas. It is also made up of a mixture of important habitats including a variety of mixedwood, deciduous, and coniferous forests. The Notawassaga River meanders through the Subject Property which protects over 2-km of riparian habitat. The river itself is habitat for a variety of fresh water species including rare and at-risk molluscs and fish.
This property also features an almost 2 acre marsh, which is one of the least common types of wetland in Ontario, providing critical habitat for migratory waterfowl, breeding amphibians, and a wide variety of other animal and plant species.
Location
The Subject Property is located in Essa Township, County of Simcoe. Situated just north of the terminus of 6 Line off the 19th Sideroad and east of Line 5 and north of Murphy Road / Baxter.
