History:
The McLeod reserve was received as a generous donation by the McLeod family in 2017 to 100 acres of ecologically significant land from development.
Features:
The property is located in the Upper Main Saugeen River Watershed and is dominated by the Kinghurt West Life Science ANSI, which extends north to the Kinghurst Swamp Provincially Significant Wetland. The wetland on the southwest corner of the property is part of Louise, Boyd, McDonald Lakes Provincially Significant Wetlands which extends south. The property is surrounded by various areas of ecological significance and is part of a large network of deciduous forest and wetlands. These wetlands provide habitat suitable for the Eastern Ribbonsnake and the Snapping Turtle, both designated as Special Concern federally and provincially, as well as many wetland specific rare plant and bird species. The wetland are crucial to support healthy watershed by contributing to forest cover, wetland buffers and groundwater quality.
Location:
McLeod is located in the Municipality of West Grey, County of Grey. It is northeast of Hanover, west of Highway 6 and south of Grey Road 25 adjacent to Louise Lake.
