Bidwell Bog

Bidwell Bog is a unique reserve that has a rare savannah landscape and a bog. This property has a beautiful hiking trail close to our Cup and Saucer reserve.

History

This property was purchased in two parts. The first, in 2006 followed by one in 2007.

Significant Features

The Bidwell Bog has many rare plant species including Swamp Pink, rare cotton grasses and Few Flowered Sedge. If you visit during the right season, orchids can also be found. This reserve has both a bog and a savannah, a rare ecological community at this latitude.

Location

This reserve can be reached from Hwy 540 about 20 km west of Little Current. Access the reserve from Highway 540, approximately 800 m north of Bidwell Road. There is a second access point off Bidwell Road. Turn west on the Bidwell Road from Highway 540 and look for the trail entry, about 500 m on the left. If dry or frozen, you can cross the savannah located north of Tower Road. Parking can be found at Cup and Saucer. To see this reserve in Google Maps click here.
