Ten Mile
History
EBC purchased this narrow strip of land in 2007 to allow visitors an opportunity to not only get out of their car at the lookout, but to see the Escarpment up close! Here you can participate in the view by seeing it from all vantage points.
Significant Features
The view from above the Escarpment is spectacular across the islands to the LaCloche Mountains. This marks the intersection of the igneous rocks billions of years old with the Escarpment sedimentary, a mere 400 million years of age. As you proceed down the path to the shore you will see outcrops from various ages and layers including scree slope, shale and clay with numerous seeps feeding the cedars.
Location
The property can be accessed from Highway 6, about halfway between Manitowaning and Sheguiandah. You can park at the Mission Lookout and walk north beside the highway about 500 metres to the reserve.
Watch out for poison ivy!.
