Simmons
History
The Simmons family generously donated this property to EBC in 2006. It offers a unique hiking opportunity, right in the Greater Toronto Area! The trail features easy terrain with gentle elevations, but can get muddy. Follow the white blazes and if you're lucky, you will run into Ivor Simmons, who serves as a volunteer steward to this day.
Significant Features
The Simmons Nature Reserve has a mixture of forest types including mature hardwoods, cedar stands, a trembling aspen stand, and also an old field meadow.
Location
There is limited street parking on Putney Road in Caledon East at the entrance to the trail. Park on the cul-de-sac and follow the EBC signs in and follow the trail. The entry trail branches east or west to the perimeter trail which returns after about 3 km to the starting point. Do not cross any fence lines onto private property. Follow EBC’s white blazes. Nearby residents often put up flagging tape, which is not always reliable for navigation. There is a side trail from the northwest corner that can be used as a shortcut to return.
