Mad River - Stephens Donation
The Stephens family has been working together with EBC to help protect the Mad River in Glencairn, Ontario. We began working with them in 2009 and since then have been building on an original 3 acres. We now completed the full 111-acre nature reserve along the Mad River, adjacent to the Glencairn Conservation Area.
The Stephen’s property is located in Glencairn adjacent to the Glencairn Conservation Area. The Stephens property is heavily treed with no recent harvesting and is dissected by the Mad River. The Mad River is fast running, shaded in places with some trees down providing shelter for fish. Species at risk present on this reserve include the Five-lined Skink, Whip-poor-will and Snapping Turtle. This reserve has a trail that starts at the Glencairn Conservation Area parking lot and follows the river east to Concession Road 3. With the help of the Stephens family, EBC is able to prevent gravel pits from expanding any further and encroaching on the Mad River ecosystem.
